Until it Was Gone

Fear just up and left.
I am not kidding.
I have felt it living in my bones.
Crippling me at times.
Needing to grasp and hold on tightly.
The moment one of the kids gets into the car.
When they are gone for long periods of time.
When they want to go to a friends.

The constant need for a call; to be in touch.
To hear their voice.
Secretly wanting them all in the house.
In their rooms.
Going no where.

It has paralyzed me.
And I didn't even know it.

Looking back,
I remember the squeeze on my heart.
My farmer and now only son, went to church.
To share the news of what had happened.
I could barely breathe while they were gone;
waiting for their return.

Would they?

This has plagued me.
Fear had set up residence in the deepest
part of my soul and I didn't even know it.

Each time someone left.
The undercurrent of fear.
Living.
In me.
Tightly squeezing the life out of me.
The phone call that the tumor was cancer.
It is only now that I remember, the fear digging in deeper.
The clutch on my heart.
Deep.
I didn't know it held this power.

Until it was gone.

Until the farm boy poked his head in the door and said,
"I'm home. I had such a good time. "

At that moment I realized.
I had gone to bed when a child was out.

I had placed my head on the pillow and sweet sleep had the last word.
My usual stance of sitting on the couch nurturing my anxious heart,
until they returned, was not a part of the picture.
When I opened my eyes in the early hours of the morning;
 the burden was gone.
The weight I carried.
Lifted.

Fear had paralyzed me and I hadn't even known.

What burdens do you carry needlessly?

Search hard.

You may never know until they're gone.

Fear had gripped so tightly I was unaware.
The tension in my soul: unable to identify.
Until it was gone.

The peace in my soul this morning is a gift.

Isaiah 66:12
For this is what the LORD says: "I will extend peace to her like a river, and the wealth of nations like a flooding stream; you will nurse and be carried on her arm and dandled on her knees.

There is so much about this journey of living
without your child that is hard to put into words.
The constant ache and longing for which can never be.

But fear.
That is different.

God is so clear on fear.

1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love.
But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.
The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

It is just like the enemy to take our situations and throw them up in our faces.
As I have been praying lately,
I have asked God to expose those things that keep me from him.
That keep me from sweet intimacy with my God.
From experiencing all He has to offer

This is the first,
I am sure, of the many ways He is working in me.
To use, Elijah's home going for HIS glory.

The relief of this burden that I did not know I was carrying is a gift.
Another measure of grace.
Of mercy.

Seek the sweetness of God's mercy.
Lay down those burdens that weigh so heavily my friends.

We sang this song at Elijah's funeral.
We sang with strength.
We raised our hands to Praise our living God.
Because even in the midst of the deepest pain;
even when the tempest rages,
Each time we sing it I am grateful fir the message it brings.
Horatio Spafford lost much.
Yet his soul was held in the hands of the One who can take all this brokeness and shape it into something beautiful.

Are You Able To Look Forward?

No matter how you look at it.
This life can be hard.
It can be painstakingly beautiful, too.
Sometimes it just seems like the pain rises to the top.
Usurping the joy.
Isn't that Satan's way?
He wants to steal our joy.
He wants to bring this world to it's knees.
Missing the beauty of the redemption in Christ.
Blinding us to that which is holy and good.
It seeps in.
A bad day at the office.
Traffic.
Money issues.
Kids challenging authority.
"Busy"ness; running from one kids activity to the next;
all good things.
All meaningful and important.
Yet slowly pulling us apart.
We struggle to find the good in things;
to take time to be quiet.
To silence the crazy around us.
We wake some mornings wondering where the time went.
How we got to this place?
I want to fight that mentality.
I want everything I do here to count for God's glory.
To be intentional about each step I take.
To be surrendered to our Holy God so much that I am in tune with His plan.
Tomorrow our soon to be graduate will share her Senior Testimony at church.

She will concisely put together her journey in her faith.
She has been working on what she will say.
Typing it out.
Re reading it.
Practicing.
Checking the timing.
So different from her older brother.
He sat at the breakfast bar with some 40 days left on this earth.
He scratched out some words on an index card.
He asked for a reference to a bible verse.
And he delivered a speech that was powerful and in so many ways his last words to us.

And I fight the fear that grows.
Are these her last words too?
I cry for God to not take her too.

And this life can be hard.

Satan desires to steal my joy.
He longs for me to not enjoy these days.

To be overcome with fear and apprehension.
But he will not stand.

Isaiah 8:10
Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted;
propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us.

Because our God is stronger and our God is mighty.

I John 3:20
If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts,
 and he knows everything.

With God on my side,
I will stand through these days.
I will trust Him and rest in the joy each day will bring.

I will not live in fear.

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

I will find the joy.
I will stand on the hope that awaits me.
I will look forward to hearing the words this beautiful girl will share.

I will look forward to seeing how God's plan will unfold in her life.
I will look forward.

Proverbs 4:25
Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.

Letting Go Of Fear and Being Hope For Someone This Year

It's here.
Another year.
Looming before us.
Choices.
Unknowns.
And here we are.
Wondering.
What will this year hold?
Hope.
It is a gift.
One to look for and embrace.
To grab hold of and seek.
It is hope that spurs us on.
Hope that reconciles the rough way.
Right close behind is fear.
Fear of the unknown.
Fear of what is known.
Blind us to truth.
To a future.
We are reminded to not fear.
We are given a promise of help.

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

We push away the fear, when we step into hope.
When we trust.
When we allow our mighty God to strengthen and help us.
We open the possibilities for the Holy to touch down.
This new day, this new year loom before us.
How will you make a difference?
How will your walk reflect the light and hope that came as a babe in a manger?

Matthew 12:21
In his name the nations will put their hope."

We are called to be the hope for the hurting.
The balm.
The hope.
May each step you take in 2015 be about blessing someone else.
Seeking the lost.
Sharing hope.

Mighty To Save

Everyone needs compassion
A love that's never failing
let mercy fall on me
Everyone needs forgiveness
the kindness of a Savior
The hope of nations

Savior, He can move the mountains
my God is mighty to save
He is mighty to save
forever author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave
Jesus conquered the grave
