Jesus Came to Change Our Lives. Not Our Circumstances.

Last year.
My farmer and College girl where in Haiti on this day.
Now they've been again.
Here is a re-post of thoughts on Water.
One of our most important resources.

Do You Have A Decent Source of Water?

John 4:14
but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.
Indeed, the water I give them
will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

Water

An integral part of our life.
Without it; we can not survive.

Yet there are nations that struggle.
Clean drinking water - scarce.
Their survival in the balance.
Poverty a way of life.
Needy.

Jesus repeatedly used analogies involving  water.
It is something we all need.
Crave.
Can not live without.
Yet, He comes, this Jesus, as the Living Water.
In a parched and dry land.
Through life in Him, our thirst quenched.
Never will we thirst again.

And here in this poverty stricken land of Haiti.
Where by most standards they have nothing.
Their joy is apparent.
They lack much.
Yet lack nothing.

.

Jesus came to change our lives.
Not our circumstances.

This life giving water is free.
With it;
We will never thirst again.

John 7:37
"Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.

Come To The Water

And Jesus said, "Come to the water, stand by my side.
I know you are thirsty. You won't be denied.
I felt every teardrop when in darkness you cried
And I strove to remind you that for those tears I died."

Will You Help, So They Can Go? Day #24 of Thankfulness

Missions.
What do you think when you hear the word?
 Overseas?
Foreign country?
For the first 15 years of my life I attended a Methodist Church.
Missional in its purpose.
I remember filling barrels with clothing to send over seas.
I remember the barrels.
We prayed continually for other countries and the missionaries.
Vacation Bible School was a challenge to raise funds to purchase chickens and milk for families in need.
I remember holding tightly to the quarter in my hot sweaty hand.
I remember the poster board chart.
The chicken and milk column's growing with each day.
The desire to help deeply rooted.
When I was 15 we switched to an Evangelical Covenant Church.
Missionaries, there, had faces.
They came and there were potluck dinners.
They shared about their work; what God was doing.

At home my father often became incensed
when talking about serving in other countries.
His philosophy; why can't we take care of our own?
There are so many people in need.
Right here in our own backyard.

Until we end poverty in our own backyard we have no business going other places. . . he would say.

These practices throughout my childhood led me to apply to be a missionary teacher in a mountainous community in Virginia when I graduated college.
I was not accepted.
(Good thing)
 I had no experience.
I was an incredibly naive, city girl.

But these experiences and the desire never left.
Somehow I wanted to help.
My farmer had the opportunity to go with Josh McDowell's ministry
to Romania about 15 years ago.
The Lord closed the door tightly.
The loss of his parents.
Then two more children were added to the scene.
And so many other life happenings.
The opportunity never presented itself again.
Until death and cancer knocked on the door.
The urgency to go became so real for my farmer.
He wanted his kids to experience another culture.
I wanted to help get them there.
And so an article in a pamphlet and a response from our community sent my farmer and his daughter to the country of Haiti.

The experience changing them forever.

This year their desire to go is even more fervent.
They want to take a team.
And God is slowly opening those doors.

We would love to have you enter in this journey with us.
First and foremost we need people to pray.
There are so many logistics for this trip.

Second we need folks to partner with us financially.
We are not in a place to handle this on our own.
We recognize that.
We also recognize if the funds are not there.
Then the trip for all of them is not meant to be.

So if you are inclined to pray please come along side us.
Send us a note, or just keep us in mind.

There is also an exciting opportunity for you to meet the team leader of this Haitian Trip and ways to serve right here in the United States!

While Global Compassion Network serves over seas, they also function in the United States as an Emergency First Response to disasters.
They have equipped trailers with Emergency supplies to meet a Communities needs when Natural disasters occur.
Dennis will talk to us about the many ways you can be involved in this ministry.

Please join us, Friday, December 4, 2015, at 6:30 pm. in the

A light supper of beans and rice will be served.
There will also be an opportunity to hear from a couple who are interested in bringing 2 Nicaraguan Orphans here to the states to help educate and equip them to go back to live in Nicaragua.

I am thankful for:
an opportunity to serve
children who want to serve others
realizing our needs are met each day
prayer
intimacy with Christ
a home bursting with giggles and friends and kids home
a quiet night with my farmer
lessons I am learning while giving thanks
running water and heat
The crisp air, reminding us that winter is on the way
a freezer full of summer
a puppy that is mending well
a farm boy that is so grateful
a God that knows my needs before I even speak them

I pray your Thankfulness journey is going well.
Something changes us when we give thanks.

Remember to mark your calendars for Dec. 4, at 6:30.
Come partner with us in these exciting opportunities.

Proverbs 19:17
Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD,
and he will reward them for what they have done.

Joy Heard From Haiti

They have flown into a different space.

A culture not like our own.
Les Cayes, Haiti.
 The south west section.
On the coast.
6 hours from Port Au Prince.
The farmer and his daughter, have left the -3 three temperatures,

chores and school and have joined with other farmers. . . to go.
They have heard the call.
 God said,  yes.

The Safe T homes; refuge for many.

Because of your faithfulness in giving and prayer, they are there.
Just over 5 years ago Haiti suffered one of the worst Earthquakes ever to strike a nation.
Already needy, this impoverished country needed a boost.
The effects were devastating.
They remain to this day.
But the people.
The resilience and joy that show forth.
That is still there.
Strength.
Through the struggle.

This farm girl, she will leave her heart in a nation not of her birth.
She will never rest until the love of Christ is made known to the world.

There is no running water in the hotel.
There are ants in the sink.
A gecko on the ceiling.
Yet she remains untouched.
She will bathe in the pool.

She is where her heart longs to be.
In a place where she can give.
Where she can make a difference.
We will lose this child to the King of Kings too.
Just in a different way.
While God called Elijah out of this world into his heavenly realm.
God will call Clarissa to live and serve among those that are;
The least of these.

Matthew 25:40
"The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'

Will you continue to pray?
Can you help us to lift this nation before God?
To ask for strength and mercy for this beautiful country?
For wisdom and direction for agencies so willing to help?

We are glad you stopped by.
We pray your life will be changed by knowing the love of Jesus.

Here is a little bit of the joy being heard from Haiti.

Getting Ready To Go

In 2 days my farmer and his daughter are leaving.
They are flying with love and prayers to a third world country.
A life long dream for both of them.
Because of your generosity, financially and prayerfully,
these two are going to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

We pack suitcases full of baby cereal and formula.
I pray.

We want this bag to hold these tangible items but more importantly
We want the love of Jesus to be known.

We have known help.
We have know grace.
In the face of dire financial times and deepest grief; we were held,
by our heavenly father.
But also by those around us.
A loving note.
A hug in the bank parking lot.
Dinners left on the porch.
Front porch visits and prayer.
We know what it is to receive.

An entire missions trip funded.

James 1:17
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Now.
We are giving back.
We will be posting here, on the blog, updates from the trip.
Won't you sign up to receive us in your mail box so you won't miss a post?
Thank you again for your wild commitment to spreading the gospel.
Thank you also for your love of our family.
We are so encouraged by your comments and notes.
Here we go.
Expecting great things.

Will you take a moment and listen to this song and pray for all these farmer who will leave their chores and the land they love. . .  to go?

I Will Go Day #25 of Thankfulness

There's been a lot brewing here on the farm for a few weeks.
I mentioned last week that there was project we wanted to share.
This busy place is always full of ideas and creativity.

Sometimes those ideas come to fruition and other times
they are mulled over through the years.
Deep seeded ideas; longings.
One of those a yearning, for my farmer, year after year.
Suppressed as chores, and children take precedence over thoughts and dreams.
Until this year;
when one of those children is married and has a child of her own.
Another of those children lies deep in the sod of the earth.
When cancer threatens the "I'll get around to it some day."
It's then, that the deep longing rises fully to the surface, aching to be heard.
A longing to escape the confines of these acres and minister to the broken and downcast.
A desire to set his feet on soil that yearns for more.

To use his hands to break the cycle of poverty and give soul food to those in darkness.
It seems his farm girl, daughter shares that same deep calling.
Her desire to attend nursing school and live a life surrendered  to the needy.
So, through prayer and research my farmer and his
farm girl have the opportunity to travel to Haiti in January.
They will work alongside the "Fellowship of Christian Farmers" through
Global Compassion Network.

There is excitement in the air as the dream becomes a reality.

Matthew 25:40
The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'

We're stepping out of comfort zones and security and taking a step
- no a leap- of faith.

One of Global Compassion Network's work site's in Haiti.

Here is where we would love for you to be a part of this leap of faith.
My farmer and Clarissa need to find prayer partners.

They need a list of folks willing to come along side them and commit to praying.
They also need financial support.
If you are interested in making a donation
(these are not tax deductible, the money is going for direct support to Gary and Clarissa)
you can either make a donation in their names to Global Compassion Network.
Or you can make a donation at the Merchants Bank in
Jericho, Vermont; to the Davis Family Fund.

We are excited about this opportunity for you to work alongside us.

We can not do this without your support both financially and most importantly, spiritually.

We are excited to see how God will use my farmer and sweet daughter.

Please join us in prayer, as we thank God for this opportunity.

I am thankful for:
a list of things to accomplish
this time of reflection and intentional gratitude
my farmer who dares to dream big
a daughter with a sensitive compassionate heart
opportunities to serve God
a farm boy who knows the value of work
enough grace to make it through, just this day
girls who dug into the dirt and grim of this home yesterday
the abundance of food we will all cook in the next few days
the strength God provides even when I feel I can not take another step
my children and each of their unique ways
the warm temperatures and sunshine
friends who take me to "the big city"
traditions that my mom and dad so carefully took time to create
a walk of faith that spurs me on and fills my soul with deep gratitude
for coffee; for coffee with friends; for coffee alone in the quiet of this big old farmhouse

Thank you for your prayers and financial support.
We will continue to post updates.
